7,680FPS slow moem by smartphone.I captured the phenomenon that the pasta does not break into two in Huawei P40 Pro!

I learned how to control time with my smartphone.

When I was bored at home, I was able to borrow Huawei's latest high-end smartphone "P40 Pro". I immediately decided to play with my specialty 7,680fps slow motion. By the way, since it was an overseas version before obtaining the Technical Conformity, I shot in airplane mode and transferred the data with a cable.

So, I thought I'd try to "verify = shoot" the phenomenon where pasta (spaghetti) breaks into three or more pieces when you try to fold it in two.

Let's go outside with a little research

I'll try to shoot watering the flowers at about 960fps. 32 times slower than reality.

It's so beautiful. You can clearly see how the petals are carpet bombed by water droplets. Image quality is also quite good. 960fps is light.

Next, try throwing a big hammer into the piled dirt.

Super dynamic. We shot at 7,680fps after dark, so the image quality is sacrificed, but it's a minor trade-off compared to the 256x slower time. And don't forget that this is a smartphone. The only smartphones that can manipulate time like this are the Huawei Mate 30 Pro and P40 Pro.

Since I found out that the ability of slow motion shooting is sufficiently high, it's finally time for the main subject pasta.

Faster-than-expected pasta

For more information, please read the article "Spaghetti Breaks into 3 or More Pieces When Folded: Solution" If you try to fold it, there is a high probability that it will break into 3 or more pieces. Richard P. Feynman (a genius physicist who won the Nobel Prize and developed a nuclear bomb) didn't understand the reasoning, but researchers at MIT clarified the mechanism in 2018. On top of that, I also found a way to break in two with a high probability.

That's why I'm going to fold it normally without doing anything.

It broke neatly in three. Even so, I had to fold about 5 before I took this video... The angle of view was difficult anyway.

It seems that the reason why it breaks into three (or more) parts is that "from the first broken part, a wave of deflection is transmitted and the second break occurs, and it breaks apart", but 7,680 Even fps seems to be broken at the same time ... .... So let's take a look at this slow-mo by frame-by-frame...!

Slow-mo shot at 7,680fps with a smartphone. Huawei P40 Pro captures the phenomenon of pasta not breaking into two!

Sure thing!! Even though there is only 1/7680 seconds between frames, I could barely see the time difference. How fast it breaks... spaghetti.

Then how to fold it neatly into two pieces?

Done. Pretty refreshing. Thanks P40 Pro.

It's simply amazing to be able to take slow-mo shots like this with a smartphone, and thanks to that, I feel like I've brought a new way of thinking about "time" into my daily life. The size, weight, and lightness of things are things that we are conscious of on a daily basis, but the speed and slowness of something was only conscious of things like vehicles and sports in those days. But if the smartphone you always have with you can take slow-mo shots like this, even an everyday event like the moment a pasta breaks becomes a spectacle. It changes the way you see the world. I feel like I have one more sensory organ.

By the way, there is a world view that can be seen by slowing down various things. Below is another playful photography gallery.

Standard Light Bulb

I had a broken light bulb at home...

A failed attempt to crack a stone:

Milk crown (water and flour because milk makes it smelly)

I'm addicted to flour

Inspired by watering flowers.

Thinking about Hayabusa2's Ryugu touchdown.

The moment the cooking burner ignites

If this casual ignition is slow motion...

I feel like I'm doing something amazing.

Not just slow-mo

Also, it goes without saying, but the P40 Pro can of course shoot in ways other than slow-mo. For example, maple leaves in spring.

A room that looks pretty dark to the naked eye:

Such as taking a clear picture in the night view mode.

I feel like it was introduced as a camera. But it's also great as a smartphone.

How far will it evolve?
