IIC（Industrial Internet Consortium）とは、2014年3月に米国に本社を置くグローバル企業5社（AT&T、シスコ、ゼネラルエレクトリック（以下GE）、インテル、IBM）によって設立された世界最大級のIoT推進団体です。現在は200以上の団体が名を連ねており、ファウンディング＆コントリビューティングメンバー（Founding & Contributing Members）は米GE、IBMのほか、米DELL EMC、独ボッシュ、独SAP、中国ファーウェイとなるなど、米国の水平パーツベンダ（業種横断でパーツ販売を行うベンダ）に代わり、欧州企業や中国企業なども名を連ねるようになりました。また、現在のステアリング・コミッティメンバー（Steering Committee Members）には、スイスのABB、日本の富士通、米国政府の研究developmentセンター（FFRDC）などを管理する非営利団体であるMITRE Corporation、同じく研究技術サービスを提供する非営利団体であるRTI Internationalが含まれます。日本からは18団体が参加していますが、参加メンバーの中にはワーキンググループで中核的な役割を果たしている企業も見られます。IIC のメンバー構成は、企業、学術関係者、政府系研究機関など幅広く、特定の国、業種、業界、分野に偏っていないことが特徴としてあげられます。このことは、1社もしくは1つのセクターでIoTサービスを構築することが困難であることを示しているといえます。IICはグローバル、非営利かつオープンなメンバーシップの組織で、インダストリアル（産業）分野でのIoTの実現を加速することを目標としています。つまり、インテリジェントなデバイスと先進的アナリティクスを結びつけることにより、製造業、エネルギー産業、農業、トランスポーテーション、医療といった多くの産業セクターに世界経済の規模の変化をもたらす「IoT革命」を実現しようとしているのです。ドイツのインダストリー4.0が製造業をその対象の中心としているのに対して、IICは、実にさまざまな産業を対象にしています。このため、産業別の切り口などを考慮した、テクニカルドキュメントも用意しています。IIC がリリースしているテクニカルドキュメントは、以下の図“IIC Technical Publication Organization”に示すような構成になっています。この中でIndustrial Internet Reference Architecture（IIRA）、Industrial Internet Security Framework（IISF）、Industrial Internet Connectivity Framework（IICF）などが一般公開されています。注意が必要なのは、IIC はIoT の標準（Standard）を決定する機関ではないということです。IIC からリリースされているテクニカルドキュメントでは、関連する国際標準や規約、ベストプラクティスなどがリファレンスとしてまとめられています。これらは、IoT ソリューションを検討・developmentする際の参考資料やチェックリストとして有用なものですが、標準を規定するものでありません。IICが合意に基づいた標準ではなく、デファクト・スタンダード（事実上の標準）を重視するといわれるゆえんはこの辺にあると言えます。IIC からリリースされているテクニカルドキュメントの中で、新たなIoTサービス創出に向けて各ステークホルダが取り組むリファレンス・アーキテクチャを定義した「IIRA」はその中核と位置付けられています。IIRAは、Business Viewpoint / Usage Viewpoint / Function Viewpoint / Implementation Viewpointの4つの視点でIoTシステム・ソリューションに関わる情報や制御のやり取りが定義されています。【次ページ】日本の団体とはどう連携しているのか？To List
