I can't buy a new MacBook because my iPad is enough

I'm a Mac user. As a gamer, Windows gaming PCs actually cost several times as much as Macs, but most non-gaming errands are done on the Mac. The reason for this is that I'm personally accustomed to relying on the Apple platform, while the Mac is also from Shoboy as a gaming environment.

My MacBook (2015 model)

The desktop computer I mainly use at home is the new 2020 model Mac mini, but the laptop I use when I go out is the 2015 model MacBook. And this MacBook was cut off from the target model by the OS update this autumn. It's time to buy a new one, but this doesn't make any progress.

First of all, there is no replacement destination. If you think about it normally, it's a MacBook Air, but if you buy a new one, the weight will increase from 0.92kg to 1.29kg. It's a 40% increase. This weight increase is unbearable because it is a portable item. The latest 14-inch MacBook Pro weighs 1.6 kg, so I have to apologize for it.

And in the first place, the chances of using it are decreasing, and the motivation for replacement is not high. I bring out my MacBook mainly when I'm on a business trip abroad and when I'm interviewing, but I don't have the opportunity. My MacBook hasn't moved from its home position since the last CES interview in January 2020.

Furthermore, there are increasing cases where it is not necessary to have a MacBook, or it is more convenient if it is not a MacBook.

Genuine "Lightning-USB camera adapter". It is convenient to connect the iPhone to a digital camera, but USB storage tends to run out of power.

Today's iOS / iPad OS can do quite a lot. For example, if you have an appropriate adapter, you can extract a ZIP file from a USB storage, unzip it, and attach any file in it to an email. Only the standard app is OK.

With a USB-C iPad, you can connect directly to your digital camera with a Type-C-microUSB cable. I don't have a Type-C digital camera, so Wakaran

You can also take photos from your digital camera and edit them in Lightroom, such as cropping. If you have an application that can handle text files, you can attach the manuscript to an email and deliver it. Recently, I often use Apple's genuine live conversion on macOS, so the operation feeling of Japanese input is almost the same on both Mac and iPad.

iPadで事が足りていてMacBookが買い替えられない

In other words, the main workflow I'm doing at work can be done on the iPad. And there are some points where the iPad is better than the old MacBook.

11-inch iPad Pro.I hope it's a little lighter, but it's lighter than most laptops with a keyboard.

First of all, the lightness of operation. Our 11-inch iPad Pro is the second generation (with A12Z) released in the spring of 2020, but even with the latest iPad OS 15, the operation is crisp and much more comfortable than the 2015 MacBook where the weight of operation became noticeable. Of course, if you buy the latest MacBook, it will perform better, but even for my purposes, such as handling RAW photos for the most demanding tasks, the A12Z's iPad Pro works light enough.

If you buy a cellular model, your iPad will stay connected to the internet on the go. You can tether your MacBook on your iPhone, but I'd like to use the automatic synchronization of the memo app without stress, so I'm grateful for the constant connection.

The rest is weight. If you replace it with a MacBook Air, the weight will increase by about 40%, but if it is an iPad, it will be slightly lighter. This is an important point when considering carrying around.

10.5-inch iPad Pro and Smart Keyboard. It's a bit old iPad, but it's the same size as the current 10.2-inch iPad.

For example, if I attach a Smart Keyboard to my main 11-inch iPad Pro, it weighs about 800g, which is a little lighter than a MacBook that weighs about 920g. By the way, if you attach a Smart Keboard to a 10.2-inch iPad or 10.5-inch iPad Pro, it will be a little lighter because it weighs about 725g.

The iPad mini is actually the lightest if it has a Smart Keyboard, but unfortunately Apple doesn't have a keyboard of this size. Alternatively, you can connect a Bluetooth keyboard to the iPhone, but the connection tends to be unstable, and live conversion cannot be used on the iPhone, resulting in old and inaccurate Japanese conversion, so I would like to avoid this if possible. ing.

Astro Slide 5G.It looks like this and is a 5G compatible Android smartphone

Also, the author seems to be able to obtain a terminal called "Astro Slide 5G", which was invested by Indiegogo last year, by the end of the year, so I'm wondering if it's okay to enter text when going out. Astro weighs about 300g and comes with a full keyboard, making it the lightest touch-typing environment. Since it was used heavily as a memo terminal when interviewing the model Gemini before, its practicality has almost been proved (although it was overused and the battery swelled and became unusable).

In this way, even if you don't have a MacBook, there are many cases where you can manage with an iPad or smartphone. My MacBook is a replacement timing, but I'm not motivated to replace it.

However, even so, I think I have to buy a new MacBook. (I don't know when next time) I'm worried that only the iPad will be used when interviewing overseas, and my MacBook also has the role of preparing for the failure of the main Mac.

However, it's unbearable to be heavy, so I'd like Apple to revive a MacBook that weighs less than 1 kg these days. I'm waiting for a lightweight and compact MacBook with an M1 chip ...
