Home office "no desk problem" solved by desktop laptop?

Using a TV as an external display

The most effective way to correct your posture is to adjust the display to an appropriate height. The appropriate height is said to be slightly below the place where the line of sight is stretched horizontally. If you have an external display, you can just adjust the height, but if you don't have a desktop computer, you probably don't even have a display. "What I want to use is the TV." In most cases, the TV is placed in a special seat in the living room, and there is also a space suitable for work such as a sofa and a table. It has sufficient resolution and size as a display, so you can't miss the fact that it can display more information than a laptop computer. Above all, the biggest advantage is that it is adjusted to a height that is easy to see on a TV stand or on the wall. If you think about it, you shouldn't feel that your shoulders and neck are stiff while watching TV. Modern TVs are usually equipped with HDMI as a video input terminal. Check the video output terminal on the computer side and purchase an appropriate cable. The most obvious combination is a pattern that has HDMI terminals on both the computer side and the TV side. All you have to do is buy an HDMI cable. In recent years, notebook computers have been pushed to become even thinner, so there are an increasing number of models in which the USB Type-C terminal also serves as video output. For these computers, you will need a cable that converts between USB Type-C and HDMI.

Don't use the computer's display

All that's left is to connect the computer and the TV with a cable. If you can't see your computer screen on your TV, try pressing Windows + P. The [Projection] menu will be displayed on the right side of the screen, so select any option other than [PC screen only] from here. The three options have the following differences. Duplication: An extension in which the screen displayed on the computer's display is displayed on the TV as it is.The computer and TV are treated as separate displays. Only the second screen that can be used as a multi-display……Hide the display on the computer side and display only the TV side Personally, I often use the last [Second screen only]. [Extended] seems convenient because you can use two displays, but you have to move your line of sight between the laptop display and the TV so much that you often lose sight of the window you are working on or the mouse pointer. In that case, it would be more efficient to switch between applications and screens using Alt + Tab or multi-desktop. Also, open the laptop display as much as possible so that it doesn't come into view. This is the basic style when working on television.

External keyboard and mouse for a more desktop experience

If you are aiming for more efficient operation, we recommend using an external keyboard and mouse. However, it may be difficult to put a laptop, keyboard, mouse and three devices on a non-work table. In such a case, the recommended technique is to use the laptop with the display (lid) closed. By default, when the laptop lid is closed, it automatically goes to sleep, so let's change the settings from the control panel using the following procedure. First, enter "choose a power plan" in the search box on the taskbar and select "choose a power plan" from the search results. When the control panel is displayed, click [Choose what closing the lid does] on the left side of the screen. Next, select [Do nothing] in the [Action when the cover is closed] item in the [Plugged in] column, and click [Save changes] to complete the setting. After completing the above settings, you will be able to operate the notebook computer without going to sleep even when the display is closed. When I actually worked in this state, my shoulders and lower back became much easier, probably because my eyes were raised and my stoop was improved compared to when I was using the laptop alone. As described above, by using the TV as a computer display, it may be possible to improve the work environment to some extent. If you are a remote worker who is suffering from stiff shoulders and back pain, please try it. (Takehiro Sawada, Urabe Seisakusho)
