Interview with Otani! Shohei Ohtani has been selected as the cover athlete for "MLB The Show 22"

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced on February 1 that it will release the software "MLB The Show 22" for PlayStation 5 / PlayStation 4. It was revealed that Shohei Ohtani will serve as the cover athlete.

The release date of this work is scheduled for April 5, 2022, and the standard edition will be announced this time, and the PS5 version will be 7590 yen (package version / download version), and the PS4 version will be 6490 yen (package version). In addition, this work is said to be compatible with Xbox One / Xbox Series X | S, Nintendo Switch.

Also, from today, reservations for the download version will start on the PlayStation Store. The package version is scheduled to start pre-ordering from 9:30 on February 3, 2022.

--Please tell us about your current feelings as a cover player for "MLB The Show 22".

Otani : I heard it last year, and it's a great honor, and I'm very happy to have it adopted as a cover for a traditional game.

――How was it as if you played the game and your ability was commensurate with your grades?

Otani : I haven't looked at it in detail, so I don't know that much yet (laughs).

――Please tell us your impression of the operation and graphics when you actually play it.

Otani : The graphics are beautiful, and the faces themselves look a lot like each player, so the movement itself is really real. If it's on TV, I don't think it's a game.

――Please tell us your impressions of breaking new ground in the game as dual wield.

Otani : First of all, I'm glad to have such a setting, and I'd like to try using myself and see if it's interesting for me.

――I think there are some users who would like to play this game with the success of Otani, but please give a message to those people.

Otani : I used to remember the names of the players in the game myself, so I learned by using various players, not just myself, and then I watched TV, watched the game, and remembered it. I think it's interesting. Also, I think it's different from what you see on actual TV.

――I think you have experienced various baseball games, but please tell us if you have any interesting episodes.

Otani : Well, I thought it would be nice to hit a game (laughs).

――I heard that you usually play "Clash Royale" with your teammates. Please tell us what the existence of a game is to you.

Otani : I do it a little bit in my spare time, to kill time when I have time, and when I want to relax. Also, I think it's good in that sense because you can communicate with each other in the game while playing with each other.

――Are there any points you can enjoy in the game? Such a place is fun.

Otani : Is it a game?

――It's about playing the game.

Otani : Well, the game itself is fun (laughs). I hope you enjoy it.

-This work will be released on PlayStation 5, etc., but have you ever played on PS5?

Otani : I have a PS5, and I played when shooting.

――Can you tell us your impressions of playing on PS5?

Otani : Of course. The game itself was also interesting. This time it will be released on Nintendo Switch, so I think that there will be more opportunities for more people to play with various contents with various people.

――In the game, you can have a dream showdown between pitcher Otani and batter Otani, but which one do you think will win?

Otani : I think it's more difficult to hit with the impression I've tried, so I think the pitcher is more advantageous.
