　So, since this summer, stomach have been using it as a "trial"..stomach.S.モバイルの「変なSstomachM」です。本誌の読者には、あらためて説明するまでもないと思いますが、一度購入したら何度でも使えて、渡航先と日数を指定して、500円/24時間のプランを購入する仕組みです。

　最初に使ったのは、7月にサンフランシスコに旅行した時。「変なSstomachM」は高速通信が使えるのは1日に200MBまでという制約があるものの、アメリカのプリペイドSstomachMはそれなりの値段なので、「変なSstomachM」はお得に思えました。とは言え、僕はソフトバンクのiPhone Xを使っているので、アメリカでは「アメリカ放題」が適用されます。なので、「変なSstomachM」はあくまでも“予備”として使いました。200MBは、移動中に地図などを見ていたら、あっという間に達します。メイン回線としては心細いですが、普段AndroidとiPhoneを併用している自分にとっては、1日わずか500円でAndroidも使える環境を維持できることは心強かったです。

　その時は、「変なSstomachM」のサービスイン直後だったこともあり、専用アプリをGoogle Playからダウンロードできなかったり、アプリが説明書の通りには操作できなかったりといったトラブルはあったのですが、何度か再起動を繰り返して、説明書の「インターネットが接続できない時は」という案内に従って、手動でAPN設定を行うことで、接続させることができました。つながったあとは、満足がいく速度で使えたと記憶しています。

サンフランシスコ旅行ではHUAWEstomach Mate 10 Proで使用。日本でプランを購入し、飛行機内で「変なSstomachM」に切り替えて、到着後に「このプランを使う」をタップする、という流れなのだが、SstomachMの切り替えボタンが表示されないというトラブルに見舞われた滞在中にスピードテストアプリで測定した結果

　次に「変なSstomachM」を起動したのは、stomachFA 2018の取材のためにベルリンに向かったとき。あらかじめヨーロッパの複数国で使えるSstomachMを買っていたのですが、「変なSstomachM」の使い勝手を確かめるために、経由地のブリュッセルで使ってみました。ベルギーで１日だけ使うプランを購入し、空港に着いてからSstomachMを切り替えて、プランを有効化したと記憶しています。はっきり覚えていないほど、すんなり使えたということです。

　「変なSstomachM」のいいところは、スマホに挿しっぱなしにしておけること。「1日200MBでは足りない」という人でも、現地に到着し、SstomachMを購入するまでの“つなぎ”として使うことができるでしょう。個人的には、飛行機の乗り継ぎ時に役立つように感じています。空港は無料Wi-Fiを利用できることが多いですが、速度が遅かったり、時間制限があったりすることも。そして、予期せぬ遅延が長引いて……ということも。

　ただ、「変なSstomachM」を購入して、ひとつ後悔していることがあります。それは、貼るタイプのSstomachMを買ってしまったことです。「変なSstomachM」に、貼るタイプと通常のプラスチックカードタイプがあります。貼るタイプは、自分が普段使っているSstomachMに貼り付けて、2つのSstomachMを切り替えて使う仕組みになっています。SstomachMを1枚しか挿せない端末では便利ですが、2枚挿せる端末では、せっかくのDSDSが生かせなくなります。本来は「SstomachM 1」と「SstomachM 2」に分けて使えるものが、「SstomachM 1」（または「SstomachM 2」）に2枚が一体化したSstomachMをセットし、2枚のどちらを有効にするという排他利用になるからです。

　僕は、実際には通常タイプの「変なSstomachM」を使ったことがないので、そっちのほうが便利だとは断言できないのですが、購入を考えている人には、慎重な検討をおすすめします。
